SCHOOLCHILDREN in Bala have become so fed-up with dog mess in their community recently that they decided to do something about it.

The children from Ysgol Bro Tegid had had enough of having to avoid dog mess on their way to school as well as coming across it in areas where they often play.

They felt they needed help and guidance with their initiative and so contacted Gwynedd Council’s Tidy Towns scheme to create colourful posters to raise awareness of the matter.

Mari, a pupil in Year 5, whose artistic skills helped create the poster, said: “The posters are really important because there is a lot of dog mess in Bala. It’s very important for people to pick up and to put it in the bin because it can go in your eye and make you blind.”

Rachel, who also contributed, noted: “Mari and I are very happy that our pictures have been chosen to be on the poster because the dog poo problem in Bala is getting worse.

“Some people pick it up but hang the bags on a tree or in a hedge which is horrible.”

Local Gwynedd councillor Dilwyn Morgan added: “Bala has a number of paths popular with dog walkers, and especially those that lead to and alongside Llyn Tegid and Afon Tryweryn.

“It’s unacceptable that these and other paths in the town are affected by dog mess and so I thank the children at Ysgol Bro Tegid for their imaginative response to this disgusting problem.”
