Following the announcement that the Eisteddfod will visit Llyn and Eifionydd in 2021, organisers have announced details of the first project for the festival held in Boduan.

Appointing a resident poet is an exciting and new way of chronicling the community project between this November and August 2021.

Festival chief executive, Betsan Moses, said: “We’re constantly looking for new ways to promote the Eisteddfod, and this time, we’ve decided to experiment and appoint a poet to follow the project and the work at grassroots level.

“The poet will be expected to attend some key event, such as the first public meeting on 12 November and the Proclamation next year, but other than that, the aim is to give them a free rein to create Welsh poems and to respond to different elements of the community project.

“This is the first time we’ve done this, and we’re looking forward to seeing who applies for the work, and how the project develops over the next few months. It’s an open commission, and we’re particularly keen to encourage women and people who have published no more than two volumes of poetry to apply.

“The successful poet will have to know the Llyn and Eifionydd area well, and must be able to explore and work in the area during the community project looking for inspiration and creating poems! All details are online, www.eisteddfod.cymru, but you’ll have to move quickly to apply – the closing date is 6 November, so the successful poet can start on the work at the public meeting in Ysgol Glan y Môr, Pwllheli, at 7pm on Tuesday, 12 November.”
