Madam,
In response to a couple of your recent correspondents regarding local bus services, I would say that the T2 service retiming to 6.50pm at Aberystwyth has been done for good reason.
The previous timing was rarely managed, due, I understand, to horrific traffic delays in the Caernarfon area.
As a regular user of that particular service to the north of Aberystwyth, I often waited 20 to 30 minutes for it to arrive at Taliesin. Not pleasant on a cold winter evening!
Simple solution to this one? Retime the last T1 to Carmarthen to run 15 minutes later.
I was somewhat puzzled over the “bus pulling out at Aberaeron as soon as my bus arrives there” comment. Surely they have been told to wait for possible passengers from a northbound arrival?
Recently the noon T2 service from Aberystwyth has been late departing because they had been told they must wait for the incoming T5.
It’s not easy to make all the connections stick when the buses are travelling over such very long distances.
I think they are technically supposed to wait for “up to 10 minutes” for a connecting service. Unfortunately this can have a disastrous effect on some other connection further along the route.
I would have thought it could be arranged for drivers to contact connecting services ahead of them if they know a serious delay is inevitable? Lloyds certainly manage to do this very well on the X28 route in relation to connections in Machynlleth for Tywyn or Dolgellau.
First are the operators on the T1, and I think they should be told about problems of connection in the early evening at Aberystwyth if their drivers are not waiting for an incoming T2 to arrive there. Similarly in relation to connections at Aberaeron – Richards are the company running the T5 services.
I regularly forward any bus-related correspondence or articles to Bus Users Cymru in Cardiff, and these would be seen by the Traws Cymru manager in due course.
Yours etc,
Joyce Porter, Talybont.
