A convoy of classic cars will travel through Gwynedd this weekend as part of a pilgrimage inspired by an ancient route across North Wales.

20 cars, ranging from an original Fiat 500 to a 1957 Porsche 356, will take part in the sixth REVS Pilgrim Tour between 9 and 11 October.

The tour will bring 39 participants to stops planned in Criccieth, Dolgellau, Talyllyn and Tywyn.

The event takes inspiration from Llwybr Cadfan, the 128-mile pilgrimage trail linking Tywyn with Ynys Enlli, or Bardsey Island, via historic churches and sacred sites across Meirionnydd and the Llŷn Peninsula.

Cars taking part include 1970s MGs, a 1974 Alfa Romeo Giulia, an original Fiat 500, Mercedes sports cars and Morgans, alongside the 1957 Porsche.

Participants will gather at the Caerwylan Hotel in Criccieth at 6pm on Friday before setting off again at 8.30am on Saturday. The convoy is scheduled to reach Cymer Abbey in Dolgellau at around 10.05am, followed by the Tyn y Cornel Hotel at Talyllyn at 10.40am and Llanfihangel-y-Pennant Church at 11.10am. The cars are then expected at Talyllyn Railway Station in Tywyn at 11.55am before arriving at St Cadfan's Church at 1pm.

Later stops include Llandanwg and Llandecwyn, before Sunday's route heads west towards Aberdaron.

Residents are being encouraged to see the cars and meet those taking part at the scheduled stops.

Local priest Fr Rhun ap Robert said: “You don’t have to arrive on foot to be a pilgrim.”

The REVS Community brings together motoring enthusiasts through events while providing opportunities for friendship, support and the exploration of faith.

Organiser John Kiff, originally from the Llŷn Peninsula, has run the tours since they began in 2021.

The event is deliberately limited to 20 cars, allowing the group to visit smaller churches and locations that would be difficult for a larger convoy to reach.
