CONTROVERSIAL plans to convert a former public toilet into a one-bedroom holiday home are back on the table.
A planning application to Gwynedd Council outlines plans to transform the toilet block - located at the foot of Ysgol y Traeth’s playground on Marine Terrace, Barmouth - into a one-storey house.
The defunct toilet block attracted controversy last year when Barmouth Community Council tried to buy it for the community, only to be gazumped by a private buyer.
The previous application attracted objections from parents worried about who might live near their children, and whether they would be safe whilst the new home was constructed.
The new owners, a couple from Oldham, submitted plans for a two-storey building with windows which looked out over the school’s playing fields, but the application was withdrawn last year.
Under the new proposals, the toilet block would be transformed into a raised single-storey dwelling, to allow for any potential flooding, but the project has again raised eyebrows.
John Sam Jones, a former Barmouth mayor and Ysgol y Traeth governor, said the school would make a formal objection.
He said: “The governors will object to the application on a number of grounds.”
