Arfon MS Siân Gwenllian has planted an oak tree on Ty’n Rhos farm, Saron, as part of the National Farmers’ Union’s #GrowingTogether campaign.

The tree was supplied by The Woodland Trust in Wales for the campaign to promote the planting of more trees integrated into farming systems, as part of a strategy for sustainable woodland expansion in Wales.

At the farm, the MS said: “I was concerned to hear of unregulated tree planting from large multinational companies risking Welsh agriculture.

“To achieve meaningful climate action in Wales, we must work closely with our vital farming industry.

“That’s why I’m glad to hear the NFU’s #GrowingTogether initiative advocates more trees integrated into farming systems – rather than replacing farming systems.”

She added: “I recently attended a climate justice rally at Bangor and was witness to the passion and commitment of local people to climate action.

"I’ve also visited the Dyffryn Gwyrdd project in the Ogwen Valley, Beics Antur in Caernarfon and Ogwen Valley’s new electric cars. All these initiatives have creative solutions to the challenges we face.

“I’d like thank NFU Cymru for being part of their latest campaign.”
