An Aberystwyth community group are holding a live music event this summer, to “lift everybody’s spirits” after a “tough couple of years”.

The Caru Aber, CANU ABER gyda CARU ABER, will be held in the bandstand on Aberystwyth Prom, at 12pm on Sunday, 14 August 2022. While the event will be free, the group will be collecting donations throughout the event to contribute towards their work.

The event was the “brainchild” of Caru Aber founder, Jeff Jones.

“The whole concept of Caru Aber is to love where you live,” Jeff explained.

“We have a beautiful bandstand which is rarely used for live music events. I thought the event would be a great way to bring some live entertainment to the promenade, for everyone to enjoy free of charge.

“We have all had a tough couple of years so hopefully this will lift everyone’s spirits.

“All the musicians are doing the event for free with any money collected going towards one of our community projects.”

Local musicians, including Louise and the Feathers, Paul Dark, Craig Stockley, John Alderslade, and the Sunshine Jazz band, will be performing at the event, as well as other musicians from further afield, like Gareth Davies Acoustic from South Wales.

Jeff added: “We are really looking forward to this exciting event which will showcase our local talent, as well as utilising an iconic but underused building in a fantastic location on Aberystwyth’s seafront.

“If the day is a success with both locals and visitors, we would love to make this as an annual event.”

Caru Aber is a volunteer group of locals who hope to “engage the community to appreciate and enhance their town through a variety of local projects”, such as litter picking and gardening groups.
