Madam,

I’d expected more debate in the paper about the future of farming.

The people of Britain voted narrowly to leave the EU, but farmers voted by a ratio of three to one to leave an organisation dedicated to subsidising their industry.

Whatever the EU was offering, they don’t want it.

So it seems odd that some politicians talk of subsidies being the same post-Brexit, and even stranger that farmers aren’t as cross about this as they were about the EU.

Does anyone have a clear answer about why farmers disliked the EU so much?

Seventy per cent of Welsh lamb is exported to the EU and tariffs are likely under a hard Brexit deal.

With council tax rising far faster than earnings (also weirdly under-discussed) and the costs of elderly care going through the roof, I wonder if the Welsh government will continue to subsidise an industry that is such a small percentage of Welsh GDP.

Yours etc,

Tony Jones, Blaenplwyf.
