Two new lead officers have been appointed by Ceredigion County Council, each taking home more than £88,000 a year.

In documents before the full council on 24 September, a report gives the details of two behind closed doors interview of candidates for two leading roles within the council.

On 11 June, members met in secret to interview candidates for the role of Corporate Lead Officer for Porth Gofal, and met again at a special meeting on 19 June to interview candidates for the role of Corporate Lead Officer for Policy, Performance and Public Protection.

The Corporate Lead Officer for Porth Gofal at Ceredigion County Council leads adult and children's social care services and serves as the deputy for the Statutory Director of Social Services when needed.

The council report said that Hywel Dafydd had been offered and accepted the role, “starting on the first incremental point of the Corporate Lead Officer pay scale”, which council documents show is £88,853 a year for 2026/27 pending a pay review.

The report also shows that Diana Davies was offered and accepted the post of Corporate Lead Officer for Policy, Performance and Public Protection on the same £88,853 a year salary.

The two new hires are part of a 14 strong leadership at Ceredigion County Council, and are two of nine Corporate Lead Officers with responsibility for overseeing and leading different facets of council services.

Along with three Executive Corporate Lead Officers for finance, social services and education, those 12 Lead Officers sit below Chief Executive Eifion Evans and Executive Corporate Director Barry Rees in a new organisational structure introduced by Mr Evans last year which saw two posts axed, while the remainder got a sizeable pay boost.

Before the restructure, senior staff wages at Ceredigion County Council stood at £1.95m a year.
