A community centre is appealing for volunteers as operators look to secure its future.
Concerns have been raised over the future of the community centre in Blaenau Ffestiniog after Gwynedd Council announced it would no longer be renting rooms in the centre for the youth club.
Doubts have also been raised over the future of day care services at the centre, leaving the town council with decisions to make over its long-term viability.
The loss of these two services would leave the community centre £28,000 down through rent payments.
Gwen Evans from Gwynedd Council met with town councillors at their last meeting to discuss the future of the centre.
Councillors heard how the centre’s heating system needs to be updated as current energy costs are very high, although Ysgol y Moelwyn , which runs the leisure centre, contributes generously towards the energy costs. The centre has only two trustees – the chair and president, councillors Erwyn Jones and Glyn Daniels.
There is a need for at least one other trustee and if the centre is to continue it will need to be a Charitable Incorporated Organisation.
For the past two years the centre’s committee has been working with Gwynedd Council to look at the budget.
Caretaker hours have been cut from 28 to 18 hours a week and administration staff hours have been cut from 19 to 14 hours a week.
The town council has agreed to take over administration of the centre through its staff in the town council office.
An open day will also be held in a bid to attract groups and volunteers to the centre, especially trustees, so the centre can apply for grant aid.
