The hall at Ysgol Glan y Mor, Pwllheli was packed out for a recent gathering to welcome the 2021 National Eisteddfod to Llyn and Eifionydd.
More than 400 people came to welcome the festival to Boduan in two years’ time, and the meeting gave them a chance to find out more about the project and show support for the aim to bring the Eisteddfod to the area for the first time since 1987.
It was also a chance for those interested in volunteering to find out more about how to join the team.
Speaking after the event, Eisteddfod organiser Elen Elis, said: “It was great to see so many people at the meeting, especially on such a cold and windy evening.
“There was a warm welcome and the enthusiasm was clear to see across the hall.
“I always enjoy the first public meeting. Starting the process in a brand new area, and seeing so many people joining in, some of them are familiar faces who’ve supported the Eisteddfod for years, and others are new faces, keen to work with us and take part for the very first time.
“And that’s what we saw in Pwllheli, everyone supporting and keen to make the 2021 Eisteddfod an amazing success. Thank you to everyone for coming, and we look forward to working with communities and individuals locally over the coming months.”
Nominations for chair, vice-chair and the executive committee secretary, and the chair of the local fund committee closed on Friday, 15 November.
The names of the officials will be announced at the first meeting to discuss the list of competitions, held in Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor, Pwllheli on Tuesday, 26 November at 7pm. They will also be published online and in the press.
The Eisteddfod is held in Boduan from 31 July to 7 August 2021.
