A BARMOUTH boy has taken part in his own version of the Three Peaks Challenge to raise money to buy memorial benches for the families of three men who died when their boat sank earlier this year.
During half term, 11-year-old William Williams, a pupil of Ysgol y Traeth, decided to take on his own version of the challenge to help fund the benches for the families of Carl, Ross and Alan who sadly lost their lives when their boat, Nicola Faith, sank.
Wil was accompanied by his parents and his faithful little dog Siani to complete his Three Peaks in a Week challenge by ascending nearby Cader Idris and Snowdon, as well as Ben Nevis.
Wil’s former classroom assistant Jake Cox was raising money for his brother-in-law Carl’s bench, and Wil asked if he could help in any way.
That’s when he thought of the challenge. It was hard going for such a young lad, but he soldiered on completing Cader Idris in four hours, Ben Nevis in seven hours and Snowdon in five hours.
Conditions were fantastic, with even a little snow still on the summit of Ben Nevis.
The local community once again showed their full support with messages of encouragement and with their generous donations Wil managed to raise £919!
A cheque was handed to Jake, but the donations kept rolling in, and £250 was then donated to Ysgol y Traeth as well.
Wil would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who contributed to the cause.
