MEMBERS of Llanwenog YFC raised £10,680.56 for Alzheimer’s Wales by completing a 60-mile challenge in June to mark their 60th anniversary.
The team reached their goal by cycling, swimming, running, rowing, walking and pulling a 60-year-old Allis-Chalmers tractor for a total of 60 miles.
“We appreciate all the help and support from everyone – friends, supporters, the community, businesses, companies, sponsors and many more,” said a spokesperson.
The funds raised will pay for Side By Side – Ceredigion’s dementia support group – for a whole year.
To complete the celebrations, members held a fun day in Caerwenog Sied when president of the day was Emyr Jones.
The shearing challenge was the highlight of the day, when 60 members or ex-members came together to shear 60 lambs. The ages of the shearers ranged from 16 to 80, with the oldest being among the club’s founders.
There was also a rounders tournament and a celebration auction which raised £3,525, which will go towards club funds – Barclays Bank provided pound-for-pound sponsorship.
