A section of the Ystwyth Trail has been closed following a landslip, with the route expected to remain restricted until early December.

Ceredigion County Council has listed an emergency closure affecting part of the popular walking and cycling route near Trawsgoed.

According to the council's latest road closure information, the restriction came into force on Tuesday, 27 October, and is scheduled to remain in place until Tuesday, 8 December.

The closure is recorded as operating 24 hours a day, with a landslip identified as the reason.

The affected section is listed as B4575–U1302 Ystwyth Trail, Section 6, with an accompanying map identifying the location close to the B4575.

The Ystwyth Trail stretches approximately 21 miles between Aberystwyth and Tregaron, passing through the countryside of the Ystwyth valley.

It is used by walkers and cyclists, with sections following the former railway line and providing traffic-free opportunities for recreation.

The closure comes during a week in which substantial new funding has been announced for cycling infrastructure in Ceredigion.

On Tuesday, 27 October, the Welsh Government announced £100,000 for improvements to the Ystwyth Trail as part of a wider £4.5 million investment in cycling tourism ahead of the 2027 Tour de France.

A further £22,380 has been allocated for improvements at Lampeter Pump Track.

However, there is no indication that the newly announced Ystwyth Trail funding is connected to the landslip or will be used for repairs.

The council's published closure notice does not specify the extent of the damage, the anticipated repair costs or whether a diversion has been arranged for walkers and cyclists.

The restriction currently applies until 8 December, although the reopening date could depend on the condition of the affected section.

Visitors planning to use the trail are advised to check the council's latest closure information before travelling.
