Champions Talybont too strong for Tywyn

ANY thoughts of players being at the beach were dismissed as the newly crowned champions put in another winning performance in the ‘Fine and Country’ conference, writes Huw Chambers.

After winning the toss, Sumesh Antony chose to bat, with makeshift opener Joseph Thomas joining Phil Abraham at the crease.

Joe Williamson has been the spearhead for Tywyn for many years, and he had the best of the opening exchanges, having both Abraham and Ayush Sharma caught cheaply.

With David Jenkins accounting for Antony as well, three heavy scorers were back in the pavilion.

Thomas, however, is one of the most experienced players in the club, and he continued to play his elegant straight drives.

He was joined by Jestus Jerry, who has been the ‘glue’ in many innings this year.

Showing his usual unflappable temperament, the score reached 120 at the halfway mark. A mix-up saw Thomas run out for 34, and Blenesh Jose was dismissed by Mike Allen for 1.

However, the batting side had the aggression of Joel Abraham up their sleeves. With Jestus starting to pepper the legside boundary, a good total was ensured, the balloon only being punctured when Jestus was dismissed by Junaid on 99, the most horrid of numbers.

Even when Joel Abraham was dismissed by Ed Hughes for 40, Sreeraj showed remarkable prowess in clearing the boundary three times in an over, making his way to an unbeaten 58 in no time at all.

He was sensibly supported by Nito, who pushed singles to concede the strike and ended unbeaten on 5. The innings closed on 313-7.

Williamson took 2-51.

Tywyn’s openers made a fighting start. Jay’s first scoring shot was a six but he was snared by Nito at fine leg off Joby David, having made 22.

Thomas then had Sam Kelsey caught behind by Ayush Sharma.

The score had just gone past 50 when Dave Jenkins, on 19, sliced Joby to point, Sreeraj taking the catch. There then followed a fine stand between Joe Williamson and Nicki Williams, with Williamson showing a range of shots.

Williams was bowled by Phil Abraham for 12, and Williamson perished soon afterwards for 53, the same bowler having him caught by Antony at mid-off.

Allen and Liam Thomas counter-attacked, ensuring that vital batting points were gained, but with the 200 in sight, Thomas gave a return catch to Sharma for 19, Allen falling on the same score for 40 as Jestus took the scalp.

With a runout accounting for Jonathan Tolhurst, the innings was ended with Ebery being trapped by Sumesh Antony for 9, and Lloyd Wrobel being dismissed in identical fashion by Nito for 8.

For the home side, Ed Hughes had ensured that maximum batting points were in the bag and remained unbeaten. The fielding side were supported by two dynamic young substitutes, Anon and Aiden.

Joby and Phil Abraham had identical bowling figures of 2-28.

The ‘Lifeline’ Man of the Match was Jestus Jerry.
