Cymru’s Euro 2020 journey is over and it’s been quite a trek.

Beaten comprehensively by Denmark in the last 16, the battling Welsh side ran out of steam and ideas at Amsterdam’s Johan Cruyff Stadium yesterday.

The amount of travelling Rob Page’s men had to undertake from Baku to Rome and on to Amsterdam certainly didn’t help with the Danes playing all their group games in Copenhagen.

But the experience will stand the young squad in good stead going into the next batch of World Cup qualifiers with a trip to Belarus up next on Sunday, 5 September.

Competing at the Euro finals was an incredibly valuable experience for players like Ethan Ampadu, Neco Williams, Harry Wilson and many others, including those who did not make it onto the field this time around, including Aberystwyth’s Rhys Norrington-Davies.

Rhys’ father Patrick said: “Rhys was obviously very disappointed not to be involved considering his defensive skills and his speed and agility down the left.

“He flies home today to self isolate at home and after a very short break returns to Sheffield United to join the pre season training that starts this coming Monday.

“That said what an experience to be involved and it can only strengthen him as a footballer moving forward and looking forward to the next campaign.”
