A man has been charged with assaulting a shop worker in Barmouth and harassing a second.

North Wales Police say they were called to a retail store in Barmouth shortly after 1.30pm on Wednesday, 4 November, following reports that a male had assaulted a female member of staff.

“Thanks to the victim's prompt report and a good description of the suspect, officers located and arrested Matthew Harris,” a police spokesperson said.

“The 48-year-old man, from Sheffield, has since been charged with assault by beating of the retail staff member. He has also been charged with harassment involving a second female victim.

“Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, charges were authorised. He was refused bail and remanded in custody to appear at the next available Court on 6 November.”

Iwan Jones, District Inspector for Gwynedd South, said: "We take reports of this nature extremely seriously and will relentlessly pursue those responsible in our ongoing efforts to end violence against women and girls.

“I would like to thank the victims and everyone who supported the investigation, enabling us to present a case to the Crown Prosecution Service."
