Porthdinllaen RNLI rushed to the aid of a sailor who suffered a stroke whilst aboard a yacht in the Irish Sea.
UK Coastguard at Holyhead had received a call from the 36 foot yacht, which was sailing from Ireland to Aberdaron Bay, early on Monday morning, reporting that one crew member had suffered a suspected stroke and was in need of immediate assistance.
At 5.05am, Porthdinllaen’s all-weather Tamar class lifeboat with Second Coxswain Robert Jones at the helm glided off her slipway and made way towards the known position of the yacht, five miles north west of Porthdinllaen point.
Crew members from the lifeboat boarded the yacht to assess the casualty, a male in his early 60, before transferring him to the lifeboat.
The Coastguard helicopter from Caernarfon Airport arrived on scene with the casualty airlifted from the lifeboat onboard and flown to Ysbyty Gwynedd for treatment.
