Environmental activists have gathered across Ceredigion today, to draw attention to climate change and to “send a message to the world leaders” ahead of the G7 summit in Cornwall.
Extinction Rebellion (XR) groups from Cardigan, Machynlleth, Aberystwyth, Borth, Talybont, as well as the Aberystwyth branch of the Climate and Ecological Emergency Bill Alliance held events as part of a national day of action, called Make a Wave.
According to Aberystwyth mayor Alun Williams, who spoke at the Aberystwyth event, the events are part of “a wave of public engagement actions along the west coast in the build up to the G7 summit of the world’s richest nations which this year is taking place in Cornwall”.
A member of the Climate and Ecological Emergency Bill Alliance, Susanna Kenyon said they organised a “colourful and informative” event in Aberystwyth, with stalls “offering practical solutions to the climate crisis from all sections of the community, speakers, and activities”.
XR Cardigan planned a fun day in Cardigan and Poppit Sands, and in Borth XR groups from Talybont, Borth, and Machynlleth held a Make a Wave event on Borth beach.
