THE history of Porthdinllaen RNLI lifeboat station has now been recorded in a new book by a well-known author.
A special book launch of Porthdinllaen Lifeboats: An Illustrated History of 150 years of life-saving by Nicholas Leach will be launched at Porthdinllaen RNLI lifeboat station on Sunday, 27 March from 1pm to mark the special occasion.
Nicholas has worked in conjunction with the station volunteers for over two years to produce this authoritative history, which tells the story of the station’s rescue work from the days of the pulling and sailing open lifeboats to the current modern £2.7m, 16m Tamar class RNLI lifeboat John D Spicer.
The book appeals to anyone who has an interest in lifeboats, rescue work, the RNLI charity, shipping, maritime heritage, the Llyn Peninsula and the village of Porthdinllaen.
The book contains 144 pages with hundreds of photographs, many of which have never been published before, and provides a comprehensive record of Porthdinllaen RNLI’s lifeboats and the proud lifesaving traditions of the volunteer lifeboat crews.
Nicholas, editor of the international magazine Ships Monthly, has written over 20 books on RNLI lifeboat stations.
