THE site of a former cinema in Porthmadog could become a retail development.
A pre-application advice form from Awake Architects Ltd has been submitted to Gwynedd Council to address the local authority’s requirements a retail unit at the site.
The Coliseum in Porthmadog was built in 1931 by local entrepreneur Captain W E Pritchard, and was demolished by Develop UK Northern Ltd earlier this year, despite a campaign to save the building.
The applicant has submitted three different options for the site for a retail unit which, at this stage, is not defined as for any specific retailer or retail use.
Cllr Jason Humphreys, says this could be a chance to “boost trade at the other end of the high street”.
In the application, Awake Architects Ltd say: “The proposals are aimed at exploring the potential opportunities to redevelop the site for possible retail which at this stage is not defined to any specific retailer or retail use."
