PLANS to convert a former high street bank in Porthmadog into a restaurant have been approved by Gwynedd Council planners.
An application was recently submitted to transform the former NatWest bank at 72/74 High Street (pictured), giving it a new lease of life in a bid that promises to create new jobs.
According to the applicant, S Pickering, the development would also see the second floor transformed from offices to a three-bedroom self-contained flat.
After no objections were lodged during the consultation period, council officers approved the application without having to go through the committee stage.
Porthmadog Town Council had voted unanimously to support the application on the proviso that bilingual signage would be displayed both inside and outdoors.
In the officers’ report it was noted they were satisfied there were enough parking spaces nearby and that its town centre location meant it would not adversely impact on traffic nor the character of the area.
According to the developers, bringing the building back into use would provide an economic boost.
