ALMOST £2,000 has been raised by a Porthmadog bowel cancer survivor after he released his first cookbook to raise funds for charity.

Dafydd Farr Jones, 33, was diagnosed with bowel cancer at just 26 years old in 2009, and since beating the deadly disease he has raised thousands of pounds for the Beating Bowel Cancer charity to help raise awareness.

The former Ysgol Eifionydd pupil, who now lives in Sittingbourne in Kent, released his book Cook Along With Celebrities and Inspirational People in December.

He said: “The book features tips and stories from survivors and families affected by cancer and even well-known politicians such as the First Minister of Wales, Carwyn Jones, and the First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon.

“It was important to me to have Carwyn and Nicola in the book to raise awareness of bowel cancer in Wales and Scotland,” Dafydd said.

“Other famous faces include chef Jean-Christophe Novelli, Lady Colin Campbell, Karen Brady, Kay Burley and Victoria Derbyshire.

“However the real stars of the book are the bowel cancer families who also share their stories and recipes.”

Dafydd, who has sold over 400 copies of his book so far, has raised £1,700 towards Beating Bowel Cancer charity from the proceeds.
