A public meeting will take place tomorrow to discuss the future of Harlech swimming pool.
Harlech Community Council is inviting members of the community of Harlech to the public meeting “to share developments to date for the swimming pool site and plans for the development of the George the Fifth Playing Fields”.
The meeting will be held at Harlech’s Neuadd Goffa tomorrow night, Thursday, 22 October, at 7pm.
The swimming pool situation has been controversial for Harlech.
Last August the future of Harlech Ardudwy Leisure Centre (HAL) remained unclear following Pobl Harlech’s decision to withdraw their bid to run it, and news that the owners of Newport’s Celtic Manor Hotel were said to be interested.
Pobl Harlech’s withdrawal statement said then: “We understand that at the most recent council meeting it was announced that a hotel development will include full public access to a pool, spa, and leisure facilities (we also hope a cafe and climbing wall). If this is accurate, then our community-led proposal would now represent a duplication of what has already been promised to the public. We sincerely hope these facilities are delivered as described and that the community will genuinely benefit from inclusive, affordable access.”
Harlech Ardudwy Leisure (HAL) closed on 1 August 2024.
Prior to that it operated under private ownership, after it was transferred to Harlech & Ardudwy Leisure (HAL) in December 2010.
