PLANS to put double yellow lines outside Machynlleth’s new hospital have been welcomed.
Welsh Government officials have submitted plans to extend double yellow lines along the A489 through Machynlleth town centre to stop parking outside the £15 million new Bro Ddyfi Community Hospital currently being built in the town.
Machynlleth county councillor Michael Williams welcomed the plans, saying: “If these restrictions are going to benefit the hospital project and make it safer for traffic, vehicular traffic and pedestrians. I very much support it. The new hospital seems to really be progressing. I wish it well and I hope everything goes smoothly ready to be opened towards the end of this year.”
Members of the public have until 2 February to submit objections to the Welsh Government regarding a proposal to extend the double yellow lines.
A spokesperson for the Welsh Government said: “The highway traffic order proposal is to slightly extend existing no waiting restrictions on Heol Maengwyn to ensure that both sides of the road area adjacent to the revised hospital entrance, are kept free of parked vehicles.
“This is to safely manage the movement of vehicles resulting from the improvements planned to health services at the hospital.
“A dedicated right turn into the hospital will be created to improve turning movements and road safety, as well as pedestrian pathway improvements across the improved access along Heol Maengwyn.”
The Welsh Government is proposing double yellow lines from the entrance to the Bro Dyfi Community Hospital and extending along the road past Parc Bro Dawel. On the other side of the road, the double yellow lines would extend from opposite the entrance to the hospital, along the road until the end of the land on which sits Maenllwyd Guest House.
From 12 January, for 21 days, a copy of the plans, of the proposed order and a statement of reasons for making the order will be at Machynlleth Library during normal opening hours.
They may be inspected in the library or free copies can be obtained by emailing [email protected]s or writing to Orders Branch, Transport, Welsh Government, Cathays Park, Cardiff, CF10 3NQ, quoting reference number qA1494972.
Objections, specifying the grounds on which they are made and quoting the above reference number, must be sent to the email address or address above by 2 February.
The £15 million redevelopment of Bro Ddyfi Community Hospital started in June 2021 and is expected to be completed in early 2023.
