A former bank building in Lampeter could be given a new lease of life as an indoor golf venue under plans submitted to Ceredigion County Council.
An application seeks permission to change the use of part of the ground floor of National Westminster Chambers, 37 High Street, from former financial services premises to an indoor golf simulator and leisure facility.
The scheme, reference A260627, was submitted on 7 October and validated by planning officers the following day.
The proposals would be confined to part of the building's ground floor, with no external alterations planned.
Rather than a traditional outdoor driving range, a golf simulator allows players to hit shots in an enclosed environment while digital equipment recreates the experience of playing on a course.
Such facilities can provide opportunities to practise throughout the year, regardless of outdoor conditions, although details of the technology proposed for the Lampeter premises have not been specified in the application summary.
The plans are still being considered by Ceredigion County Council, and planning permission has not yet been granted.
The applicant is seeking a change of use from Class A2, covering uses such as financial and professional services, to Class D2, covering leisure and assembly facilities.
Situated on Lampeter's High Street, the premises are close to other shops, businesses and services, making the proposed development another potential example of a former banking building being adapted for a different purpose.
The application is being handled through the council's delegated planning process, meaning a decision can be made by authorised officers rather than requiring a vote by councillors.
The council's target date for determining the application is 3 December, although that deadline does not guarantee when a decision will be issued.
If approved, the scheme would introduce a new indoor leisure facility to one of Lampeter's central commercial properties without changing the building's external appearance.
