Dwyfor Meirionnydd's MP and MS donned their gardening gloves at the weekend to help Bro Ffestiniog-based community social enterprise, Y Dref Werdd plant trees at Y Pengwern pub garden.
Liz Saville Roberts and MS, Mabon ap Gwynfor spent an afternoon at the community-run Pengwern in Llan Ffestiniog, planting around 100 trees to form natural screening at the bottom of the garden and to encourage wildlife habitat growth. They were supervised by Y Dref Werdd’s Meg Thorman and local councillor, Linda Ann Jones. Commenting, the politicians said: "We were delighted to join Y Dref Werdd at Y Pengwern in Llan Ffestiniog at the weekend to help with the planting of around 100 trees to form natural screening in the garden and to encourage biodiversity.
"As some of the wealthiest and most powerful people in the world flew into London on their private jets for the coronation, it was a welcome relief to escape the pomp and ceremony and spend time supporting community initiatives. "It was great to be able to switch off and get stuck in with such a worthwhile project. In time, the trees will grow to form natural screening between the pub garden and neighbouring houses. They will also help encourage biodiversity and provide shelter for local wildlife. "We’d like to thank the team at Y Dref Werdd and Y Pengwern for the welcome and take this opportunity to acknowledge the work both enterprises do in supporting the community in Bro Ffestiniog. They are an example of what real community activism can achieve."
