Thanks to public donations, Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board, has been able to fund therapeutic toys, books and games for the Aberystwyth-based Specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (SCAMHS).
SCAMHS, based at Ty Helyg on Caradoc Road, delivers care and support to young people up to the age of 18 years.
The NHS charity has funded items such as board games, fancy dress items, action figures, wooden toys and arts and crafts.
Tracey-Lee Davies, Lead Nurse, said: “We are very grateful that charitable funds have enabled us to purchase these fantastic toys, books and games for the SCAMHS based at Ty Helyg.
“SCAMHS is a community-based service that provides mental health assessment and or therapeutic interventions for children, adolescents, and their families or carers.
“Our aim at SCAMHS in Ty Helyg is to improve the mental health and the psychological and emotional well-being of children and young people so that they can achieve their full potential in the world.
“We work with a range of mental health difficulties, mental illnesses, and complexity.
“The new therapeutic toys have been of great benefit to the children in therapy and the therapists themselves.
“They make the building more cheerful and welcoming and significantly reduce the anxieties of families and children as the place is now bright, homely and a comfortable environment for them to feel safe in.”
Nicola Llewelyn, Head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board, said: “The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
