OVER 100 people have signed a petition calling for a safer road crossing to be put in place for youngsters attending a secondary school in Porthmadog.
Last week the Cambrian News reported that concerns had been raised that children were being put at risk using the busy main road to cross over to Ysgol Eifionydd.
Nia Jeffreys, who is the Plaid Cymru candidate for the Porthmadog east ward in the Gwynedd Council election in May next year, has now began a petition calling for Gwynedd Council to create a safer crossing on the road.
She said: “The campaign launched in the Cambrian News last week for a safe way to cross the road outside Ysgol Eifionydd in Porthmadog is going from strength to strength.
"An online petition has been started by myself that is calling for Gwynedd Council to look into every option to make it safe for Porthmadog children to cross the road to school.
"Once the council has found the safest option they should act as quickly as possible to put it in place.”
The petition has so far gathered over 100 signatures.
