People in Porthmadog have rallied to help the local Scouts after Storm Ciara flooded their hall, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage, threatening the future of the group.
The Scouts were left devastated when their headquarters on the wharf flooded on Sunday, ruining the carpet, floor, walls and electrics.
A GoFundMe page set-up to raise money for the hall, which was given to the group by Lord Baden Powell, has raised over £600 in just one day.
But the Scouts need more to repair all the damage and make it safe to use.
Recalling the sickening moment she discovered the damage, Liz Bosley, acting group leader, said: “I was out shopping with my partner and I saw how bad the weather was. I had a bad feeling so I went down and that’s when I saw the water pooled on the floor.
“It feels like we need to start all over again. We need the help of the local community.”
It’s the second time the hall has flooded – it was badly damaged in 2013 and Liz said the latest flood had forced the group to “go back to square one”.To donate to the 1st Porthmadog Scout Groups fundraiser, visit www.gofundme.com/f/1w74b74kaoSee this week’s Dwyfor edition for the full story, in shops and online now
