THREE swimmers from Aberystwyth and District Amateur Swimming Club (ADASC) ventured to the National Pool in Swansea for the Swim Wales Summer Meet on 29 July to 2 August, writes Carol Macy.

Five swimmers had qualified for this national event from the club to swim against the best swimmers in Wales which included Gwennan Filmer and Hamish McFadyen from Penweddig and Oli Lerigo, Kaya Szmigiero and Evie Rosa Kellaway from Penglais.

Kaya qualified for an incredible eight events over the course of the four days and performed brilliantly earning several PBs.

Her first event was the 50m breaststroke. She earned a 1.55 second PB and a 10th place. She then competed in the 100m backstroke, earning a 14th place finish. In the 100m freestyle, she earned another PB and a 9th place finish. and in the gruelling 200IM (50m fly, 50m back, 50m breast and 50m free), she earned an impressive 5.08 second PB and finished 16th.

In the 50m free she earned another PB and a 7th place. As she was in the top eight in this event, she then took part in the final later in the evening and earned another PB, finishing 7th.

She then earned yet another PB in the 50m fly earning a 13th place finish followed by an 8th place in the 50m backstroke, qualifying for another final.

Kaya was determined to do her very best in the final, swimming in the outside lane. She swam an amazing race, earning another PB in the final and a 3rd place finish.

To finish her competition, she raced in the 100m fly, earning a 13th place finish. It is no wonder she won an international award at the Ceredigion Actif Sport Awards for swimming in July.

Club Captain Oli Lerigo, also qualified for the Swim Wales Summer Meet for the first time.

As a long-standing member of the club, Oli has trained consistently with great maturity for years and all his hard work paid off this year in earning the qualifying time for two events.

His first event was the 50m freestyle. He earned a PB and a 22nd place finish. In his second event, he competed in the 100m breaststroke. He earned a fantastic 1.67 second PB and made the final.

In the final, Oli raised his game once again, earning an amazing 3.31 second PB in the outside lane and finished in 7th place.

Oli was also successful in the Ceredigion Actif Sports Awards, earning a Talented Junior Award for swimming.

Evie Rosa Kellaway also qualified for her first nationals.

Evie-Rosa has been committed to her swimming, training regularly and with great focus and all her hard paid off by qualifying for two events.

She competed in the 100m freestyle, earning a 1.50 second PB and a 38th place finish against the quickest girls in Wales in her age category.

In the 200IM, she earned an amazing 5.33 second PB and a 37th place finish.

At the Ceredigion Actif Sports Awards, Moli Tooze from Ysgol Penrhyncoch, also won an award for Talented Junior for her services for swimming.

Dylan May-John from Ysgol Bro Sion Cwilt also won an international award for his services and successes in the pentathlon. ADASC Lead Coach, Deirdre Jones-Monaghan won the Coach of the Year.
