ABERYSTWYTH bowler Gwynant Ellis recently became Welsh Senior Singles Bowling Champion 2026 at the Llandrindod Wells National Finals.

In the semi-final Ellis overcame five-times British Isles Champion and Commonwealth Gold Medalist Robert Weale 21-10 to progress to the final.

In the final he got off to a disastrous start trailing 11-0 in the first to 21 contest.

Undeterred he clawed his way back to 11-14 down, only to see his experienced opponent Gareth Hughes pull away again to 19-11. Ellis displayed great skill and and resolve to win the next seven ends in a row to secure a gritty 22-19 victory and the Welsh title.

This caps off a fantastic season for the Aberystwyth bowler who has won an unprecedented five Ceredigion County titles this year to go with Open Singles Tournament success at the Llanidloes Mayor's Trophy and Aberystwyth Corporation Cup.
