NEWCASTLE Emlyn booked their place in the next round of the Costcutter Ceredigion League Cup with an impressive 5-2 derby victory over Llandysul on Saturday.

The tie burst into life from the opening whistle, with both sides attacking at every opportunity. Emlyn struck first after just three minutes when Osian Thomas raced onto a through ball from Josh Bennett before calmly finishing.

Llandysul responded within minutes, Osian Mason-Evans finding the net with a superb long-range strike.

However, the scores were level for only a short time as Emlyn regained the lead through Thomas. Excellent work on the left by John Seeley created the opportunity, with Thomas beating the defence before slotting into the bottom corner.

The visitors continued to play some attractive football and drew level once more when Mason-Evans fired home his second of the afternoon after being left unmarked inside the penalty area.

Seeley came close to restoring Emlyn's lead but missed the target from a promising position before the hosts edged back in front. A defensive mix-up and goalkeeping error allowed Will Williams to tap home after the ball fell kindly into his path.

Llandysul goalkeeper Ifan Mason-Evans then produced an outstanding save to deny Williams from close range and keep his side in contention.

Emlyn started the second half strongly and increased their advantage on 54 minutes when Seeley latched onto a Gareth Evans pass and cleverly lobbed the goalkeeper to make it 4-2.

Although Llandysul continued to battle, they were unable to create clear-cut chances, and Emlyn put the result beyond doubt when Thomas completed his hat-trick with a long-range effort. The goal took his tally to 10 in just four matches.

Crannog also progressed with a convincing 3-0 victory away to Felinfach Reserves.

Sixteen-year-old Osian Williams broke the deadlock five minutes before half-time, and the visitors were handed a further boost when home goalkeeper Rhodri Jones was sent off after 65 minutes.

Samuel Dutnell doubled Crannog's lead on the hour mark before both sides were reduced to 10 men following Billy Williams' dismissal. Dutnell sealed victory and his brace with 10 minutes remaining to secure Crannog's passage into the next round.

Elsewhere, Pencader overcame fellow Division One side New Quay 3-0.

Steff Jones opened the scoring early in the first half with a strike from the edge of the area before Llew Jones doubled the lead after the break with an excellent individual effort and composed finish.

Connor Reece Timms added a third to put the result beyond doubt, while Steff Jones was named man of the match after an influential display in midfield.
