PENPARCAU were given a stark reminder of the challenges awaiting them on their return to Tier 4 football as Llanidloes Town claimed a 3-1 victory in the opening round of the MMP Central Wales South season on Saturday.

The Daffs struck first through Cameron Howells on 37 minutes, but Penparcau responded well and were back on level terms within five minutes. Keiran Duggan's persistence created the opportunity for Gytis Pivnickas, who calmly finished to send the sides in level at the break.

Llanidloes raised the tempo after half-time and gradually took control. Steffan Marshman restored the visitors' lead just before the hour after combining neatly with substitute Edward Clarke, who then capped an influential appearance by adding a third midway through the second half to put the result beyond doubt.

Despite the disappointment, the match provided valuable experience for Penparcau's younger players as they adjust to the demands of life back at this level.

Ffostrasol enjoyed a dream start to the campaign with an impressive 4-0 victory over a fancied Lampeter Town side at Troedyrhiw Park.

The hosts were quickly into their stride, Dafydd Phillips opening the scoring after just six minutes. Teenager Keane Moore doubled the advantage on 15 minutes after linking up well with Phillips, before Phillips struck again shortly afterwards.

Moore grabbed his second goal four minutes into the second half to end any hopes of a Lampeter comeback.

Penrhyncoch Reserves also collected three points thanks to a solid 2-0 home victory over Rhayader Town. Cai Williams opened the scoring before Eddie Rhodes wrapped up the result.

Elsewhere, Rhun Garners' late strike, seven minutes from time, earned Tregaron Turfs a hard-fought 1-0 win over Felinfach Reserves on Friday evening.
