NEWCASTLE Emlyn picked up a fantastic 2-1 victory over a tough Lampeter Town Reserves side on Saturday to move three points clear at the top of the Costcutter Ceredigion League Premier Division table.
Both teams played some excellent football throughout the 90 minutes, with defences standing firm and chances at a premium.
Osian Thomas opened the scoring for the Reds after a great header across goal from Mike Glover.
Lampeter battled back to level the game with Daniel Bureca scoring from a through ball by Alfie Davies, but Sam Brook had the final say, finishing off some excellent work from Riley Clemas who dribbled past three players to set Brook up who controlled it and finished into the bottom corner to secure all three points for Emlyn.
With league rivals in Emrys Morgan Cup action, manager Gareth Winston was delighted with the win: "We thoroughly deserved the three points today, it was a tough game and they were a good side but we wanted it more I thought.
“Lampeter have some good young lads and no doubt they have a good future ahead of them. Lampeter shouldn't look at this loss in a negative way as they were excellent.”
A great team performance from both sides, with Jethro Smith deservedly taking man of the match for Emlyn for his outstanding work rate in the midfield.
