The FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) is returning to America, offering reigning world champion Elfyn Evans the chance to compete in the United States as part of his title defence.

The Dinas Mawddwy driver made history earlier last week by becoming the first Welshman to win the WRC crown, adding his name to rallying's all-time greats.

The Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), motorsport’s governing body, has released the 2027 WRC calendar, confirming the United States will host a round of the championship from August 26-29. The event will mark the first time the world's premier rally series has competed on American soil in 39 years.

The WRC last visited the United States for the Washington state-hosted Olympus Rally in 1988. Across the last four decades the WRC has grown into a year-long, truly global series followed and viewed by hundreds of millions of fans.

“For 38 years, America has been the missing pin on the FIA World Rally Championship map,” said Matt Crews, President and CEO of Rally US.

“Today, that changes. Bringing the best drivers, teams and manufacturers in the world back to American roads is a historic moment for this sport and for this country, and we are going to deliver an event worthy of that moment."

Proud to see America back on the FIA World Rally Championship calendar, Crews was quick to recognize the role the American rally community played in making Rally US possible.

"This moment belongs to the American rally community," Crews said. "For decades, the competitors, volunteers, organizers and fans kept this sport alive on American roads, and their work is what proved to the FIA that our country is ready. We intend to make that community proud.”

Rally US has worked alongside the American Rally Association National Championship (ARA) and rally organizers across the U.S. throughout the FIA’s candidate event process.
