A charity jet ski rideout involving more than 100 personal watercraft has raised £3,000 for Aberdyfi RNLI.

The donation was presented to the station following an event in June which saw riders travel from Black Rock Sands to Aberdyfi in support of local good causes.

Aberdyfi RNLI’s volunteer crew joined the flotilla aboard the station’s B class inshore lifeboat, escorting riders as they made their way into the Dyfi Estuary.

The £3,000 cheque was presented by Chris Walton, a former Aberdyfi lifeboatman who was representing Colwyn PWC Riders. He was joined by his son Tom Walton, a local Coastguard Rescue Officer and Assistant Harbourmaster in Aberdyfi.

Wil Stockford, from Aberdyfi RNLI, said the station was “incredibly grateful” for the donation.

He said “The charity rideout was a fantastic event and it was a privilege for our crew to be involved.

“A donation of £3,000 will make a real difference to our station and ultimately help our volunteer crew continue to be there for those who find themselves in trouble on the water.”

Mr Stockford said it was also particularly special for the cheque to be presented by a former member of the crew alongside Tom, who continues to play a role in keeping the area’s waters and harbour community safe.

The RNLI relies on donations and fundraising to maintain its lifeboats, equipment, training and stations, while its volunteer crews provide a 24-hour search and rescue service around the UK and Ireland.

Aberdyfi Lifeboat Station has operated since 1837 and came under the RNLI in 1853.

The charity thanked Colwyn PWC Riders, those who organised the event and everyone who took part in the rideout and helped raise the funds.

The June rideout brought together members of the personal watercraft community and created a striking procession along the North Wales coast before the flotilla reached Aberdyfi.
