An empty shop in the centre of Aberystwyth is set for a major refurbishment after Ceredigion County Council launched a search for a contractor.
The authority published a tender on Friday, 30 October, for work at 33 Cambrian Street, a former retail premises that is currently vacant.
The proposed scheme includes renovating the existing shop unit, replacing a polycarbonate roof over the rear courtyard and refurbishing a two-storey building to the rear.
The latter work would involve replacing existing asbestos-cement roofing and front cladding, according to the procurement notice.
The contract also covers design development, construction, testing and certification, with the successful bidder responsible for delivering work that meets the necessary standards.
The council's timetable suggests work could begin on 11 January 2027 and finish on 3 May, although these are estimated dates rather than confirmed deadlines.
The tender closes at noon on 23 November, while contractors can submit questions until 16 November.
It marks the latest stage in plans to bring the empty property back into use.
Last November, the authority awarded a £27,600 architectural design contract, excluding VAT, for plans covering both 33 Cambrian Street and 10–11 Harford Square in Lampeter.
The contract went to Anarchitecture, trading as Conception Architects Studio, following a competitive tendering process that attracted four bids.
The latest notice does not disclose a meaningful estimated construction budget, nor does it specify what business or other use might occupy the Cambrian Street premises after completion.
The former shop's future is therefore not yet clear, but the tender indicates that the council is progressing from design work towards procuring the refurbishment itself.
Bids will be evaluated primarily on cost, which accounts for 70 percent of the scoring, with technical quality making up the remaining 30 percent.
