A Dolgellau man who assaulted two police officers in Porthmadog has been jailed.

Joshua Atkinson, of Henfaes, appeared at Llandudno Magistrates’ Court on 23 September.

He admitted to assaulting two police constables in the execution of their duties.

Officers attempted to arrest Atkinson on 22 September after he breached a court order.

However, the 31-year-old resisted arrest and spat at the officers.

He was jailed for 36 weeks.

District Inspector Iwan Jones said: “Any abuse directed towards emergency workers is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

“Our officers deserve to carry out their duties without fear of assault.

“We will continue to take robust action against anyone who threatens the safety of our officers or the wider community."
