A Welsh singer now living in Spain will perform at Borth’s Star of the Sea.
Claire Roberts will take to the stage there on Friday, 11 October, singing in Welsh and Spanish.
“I was born in Carmarthen and grew up singing on Eisteddfod stages as well as classical training,” Claire explains.
“I decided to study jazz singing in Barcelona, where I have been working as a singer and composer for the past few years - and enjoying the local culture and vermut!
“Since moving to Barcelona, I have rediscovered singing Welsh song - audiences in Catalonia especially love to hear the Welsh, and it resonates with them as they speak Catalan. “I have been singing Welsh songs more and more, and last year I was singing at Llais Fest in Cardiff, Rhosygilwen, and at the Barbican in London for London Jazz.
“My work has been awarded a PRS Composer award, and I have been commissioned by the Wigmore Hall, as well as the Eisteddfod here in Wales.
“In October I have two concerts in the area, with the Treske string quartet, an acclaimed classical string quartet. We will perform at Mid Border Arts on the 10th, and at Star of the Sea in Borth on 11th. Tickets need to be guaranteed in advance! The players will blow people away I'm sure, and it's so great to come to rural venues.
“The music is songs in Welsh and Spanish, combining my love of jazz and improvisation with traditional Welsh music.”
