SIX swimmers and two coaches from Aberystwyth District Amateur Swimming Club (ADASC) took part in the Level Water Wild Swim Relay at Lake 32 in Gloucestershire on 19-20 September.

Swimmers Elsa Finney, Jack Foale and Oli Lerigo, from Penglais, and Seren Alexander, Gwennan Filmer, and Peni Macy from Penweddig swam as a team for a total of 24-hours, joined by coaches Helen Ovens and Andrew Filmer.

Calling themselves the ‘Dal Ati Dippers’, they were swimming to raise money for Level Water, a charity that gives children with disabilities the opportunity to learn to swim.

For several of the swimmers it was their first experience of an outdoor swim event, and the first time for all the swimmers to swim continuously in the dark.

Together the whole team swam over 50 kilometres and raised just under £2,000, while enjoying the party atmosphere of the event and the beautiful setting of Lake 32.

Starting at 12noon on the Saturday, the swimmers took turns to swim for an hour around a 400m course until 12noon on the Sunday.

Oli and Peni swam for four hours each over the 24-hour period with Oli totalling just over 11 kilometres and Peni 10 kilometres.

Over £41,000 was raised by more than 20 teams, enough for Level Water to provide over 2,700 swimming lessons.
