Aberystwyth Town Women's Imi Scourfield has been called up to the Wales under-19 squad - her first international recognition.
Scourfield, who made her Genero Adran Premier debut this season and has impressed with her performances in central defensive midfield, turned 17 this week - so the call-up was a nice birthday present.
"I was utterly shocked," she said. "Finding out genuinely left me speechless. Since joining Aberystwyth Town, my confidence has increased and I have definitely developed and become a better player, so this is a dream come true."
She added: "I hope this will make my family and friends proud - they have done so much for me with transport and supporting me at my games, so I’m glad I can give this back to them!"
"Imi is a huge asset to the club," said manager Gavin Allen, who pointed out that Scourfield is the only member of the Under-19s squad who regularly plays her football in the Genero Adran Premier.
"She is a very focused and determined young player who gives her absolute all at training and games and is extremely deserving of this opportunity - I have no doubt that she’ll succeed."
Scourfield has joined up with Nic Anderson's squad for their matches against Czechia, England and Greece - heading off after playing against Wrexham at Park Avenue on Sunday.
