ST Dogmaels climbed to the top of the Costcutter Ceredigion League Premier Division after powering to an emphatic 8-1 victory over Newcastle Emlyn.

The hosts started the day at the summit following last weekend's win over Llechryd, while the Saints arrived in second place with a perfect record despite being without several key players.

The visitors broke the deadlock on the half-hour mark when Chris Morgan headed a free-kick back across goal for Jason Williams to apply the finishing touch. Louis Harding then doubled the advantage with a composed chip over the advancing goalkeeper to give St Dogmaels a deserved 2-0 lead at the interval.

Any hopes of a Newcastle Emlyn comeback were quickly extinguished after the restart as the Saints produced a ruthless attacking display. Lewis Williams made it 3-0 after being released by Gwilym Rees before Rees got on the scoresheet himself, calmly converting after a perfectly weighted pass from Luke Jones.

Harding added his second soon afterwards following good work from Lewis Williams and completed a fine hat-trick with a superb long-range chip that was undoubtedly one of the goals of the afternoon.

St Dogmaels showed no signs of easing off. Dave Reynolds won possession high up the pitch before setting up Jack Skeels to make it 7-0, and Skeels added his second moments later after Elliott Wigley created another opportunity.

Newcastle Emlyn kept battling and were rewarded with a late consolation goal by Osian Thomas, but by then the visitors had long since wrapped up the points.

The victory sends St Dogmaels to the top of the table ahead of a run of cup fixtures.

Crymych moved up to second place after an equally impressive 8-0 home success against Lampeter Town Reserves.

The Tegryn side were dominant from the outset and raced into a 5-0 half-time lead through Dewi Baum, Danny Williams, Rhodri George (2) and Elliott Bailey-Williams.

George completed his hat-trick shortly after the hour mark to take his league tally to seven goals for the season, while substitute Tomos Jones marked his introduction from the bench with two late goals.

Llechryd also enjoyed a high-scoring afternoon, beating a youthful but determined Cardigan Town side 7-2.

The wet conditions and difficult Culver playing surface made it a scrappy game, but Llechryd created plenty of chances.

Liam James opened the scoring with a 25-yard strike before adding his second, with Owen Wilton and Gwion Howell also getting on the scoresheet.

More goals followed in the second half from Wilton, Rhydian Davies and Mikey John to complete the win. Jody Wright and Elliot Kimbre replied for the visitors.

Elsewhere, Charlie Bujega's goal on the stroke of half-time proved enough to give Llanboidy a narrow victory over Maesglas.
