THE penultimate meeting of the season was held at the all weather track near Ammanford, with appropriately some wet weather, however the racing was still very competitive with all the advantages of a hard track.

The first race of the meeting was the Novice race with a field of eight to set up the tone for the day. The winner was Mahogany Frankie with Jason Munro from Bridgend on board, in second was newly promoted Beach Boy (Collard, Nantmel) while Rhyds Louie (Millard, Stourbridge) another front handicapped horse was third.

In the Grade B race, Glenfield Thomas driven by Mathew Tromans for Gary Billington from Leicester on his first race in open company, continued in winning ways ahead of Evenwood Itchyfeet (Mills, Llanddewi) while Oakwood Ideal (Bowen, Llanbister) was third.

In the Grade A Lucifer driven by Perry Thomas for Robin Lloyd from Painscastle, another newly promoted horse, took top honours in front of Fold Megastar (Bird, Evenjobb) while Archie Camden (Gale, Gorslas) was third.

In the Baby Novice the in form Money Talks with owner Keith Young from Newent on board, was first passed the post, ahead of Isolation (Collingwood, Huntington) while Landafew (Niah Rowlands, Nantmel) was third.

A non whip race has been one of the main additional races of the season and proved popular again this week. In first was Mahogany Frankie driven by Perry Thomas for the Munro family from Bridgend, the horse claiming his second win of the day. In second was Sonny Camden (Dan Millard, Stourbridge) with Manhattan Gangster (Munro, Bridgend) in third.

As the highlight of the meeting was the STAGBI Future Broodmares race, the boys were given a Free For All race, where they all start off the gate. First over the line was World Famous (Bevan, Builth Wells) with his young driver Finn Bevan at the controls, in second was Fold Megastar (Bird, Evenjobb) while the other Perks entry Fold Fearless (Perks, Presteigne) was third.

The feature race of the meeting was the STAGBI Future Broodmares’ Race which was won by the family owned Blue GunsNRoses with trainer Perry Thomas from Bridgend at the controls, in second was Zulu Warrior (Tromans, Newcastle Emlyn) while Full Closure (Bevan, Llanddewi) was third.

Next week is the final meeting of the season, the popular charity meeting where the prize money is low, but the prestige is high, with the meeting run for charity. This year it is on the Broadheath track, near Presteigne on Saturday September 19th starting at 1.30pm.
