Aberystwyth-based theatre company Arad Goch has won the Welsh Language Use Award at the Wales Charity Awards.
Organised by the Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA), the award has been given to the Bath Street-based business in recognition of the company’s commitment to promoting, celebrating and developing Welsh as a living language.
Welsh is at the heart of Arad Goch’s activities, which strengthen the everyday use of the language while opening doors to social, creative and professional opportunities through Welsh.
Based in Aberystwyth, Arad Goch places the Welsh language at the centre of its work, from theatre productions and tours across Wales to drama clubs, workshops, community projects and activities at its centre.
The company is committed to a Welsh-first policy, ensuring that the language is a natural part of every aspect of its work.
Arad Goch also creates opportunities for children, young people, families, artists and freelancers to use Welsh in creative and professional environments. By supporting artists to work through the medium of Welsh, providing opportunities for people to develop their language skills, and creating accessible arts experiences for new audiences, the company helps ensure that Welsh continues to thrive both on and off the stage.
Arad Goch’s international work also contributes to raising the profile of the Welsh language beyond Wales, sharing Welsh-language theatre with international audiences and colleagues and demonstrating that Welsh is a living, creative and contemporary language.
This award celebrates the contribution of Arad Goch’s staff, artists, volunteers, partners, participants and audiences, all of whom play a part in ensuring that Welsh continues to be used, heard and celebrated in every aspect of life.
The recognition strengthens Arad Goch’s mission to create opportunities for people of all ages to experience, enjoy and use the Welsh language through the arts, helping to secure a thriving future for the language.
