CLWB Rhwyfo Porthmadog has returned from one of the UK's most prestigious river races with not one, but two trophies, after an outstanding performance at the Great River Race in London.

Competing against hundreds of crews from across the UK and overseas, the clwb’s women's Celtic longboat crew rose to the challenge of the 21.6-mile ‘London River Marathon’, which takes competitors along the River Thames and beneath the capital's famous bridges.

The crew returned home with two major awards, claiming the titles of First Ladies Celtic Crew and Fastest Ladies Veterans Crew, an extraordinary achievement in an event regarded as the largest and most prestigious fixed-seat rowing race in Europe.

What makes the success even more remarkable is that it has been achieved by a volunteer-led community club from Porthmadog, competing against far larger and better-resourced clubs.

The women demonstrated incredible determination, teamwork and endurance to complete the gruelling race and secure their place among the event's top performers.

The achievement showcases how local volunteers, training together can compete with and beat some of the best crews in the country.
